And now I present to you one of the country's most wanted food - CHAR KWAY TEOW!!
So basically, yes, char kuey teow is one of the delicious food that will make you drool all the way! For those who don't really know what it is, it's some sort of like stir-fried ricecake strips and this noodle dish is famous not only in Malaysia, but also Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia.
This noodle dish is made up of flat rice noodles or what people call as kway teow and it stir fried over very high heat with light and dark soy sauce and with some belachan and little bit of chilli. To make it more interesting and presentable and of course, tasty some people add some deshelled blood cockcles , prawns, bean sprouts and if possible some chinese chives. It will be fried-stirred with some eggs, chinese sausages and fishcakes.
Okay, now I know you probably want to know the place to dig into this right? So let me suggest some of the places where this dish is famous.
First, will be on the northern side which is Georgetown, Penang. There is a cafe called Kafe Ping Hooi at the corner of Lebuh Carnarvon and Lebuh Melayu. This cafe is one of the Penang's most famous for Char Kway Teow and it has seen to be operated by the Yeow family for three generations over half a century. The speciallity of this cafe is that they serve the dish with stir-fried duck egg where they only charge extra 0.50 cents compare to the normal one which is RM 4. Usually this dish is always found in island rather than the mainland of Penang.
Next will be Petaling Jaya (PJ). Here, when you see a stall named CKT stall at Kam Heong kopitiam then that's it. the kway teow here usually slightly fatter and the lard usage is rather generous as well. Here they have chinese style of char kway teow and I heard that it is satisfying as well.
So why not give it a go guys?
