SATAY


Have you heard people talking about satays in Malaysia? You should have! Satay is one of the most famous food in this country. For those who haven't heard anything about it, here's an introduction about it. Satay is seasoned and grilled screwed meat which is chicken or beef usually but there is other meat like rabbit, dear and mutton too. Satay is said to be originated from Java, Indonesia. But we still don't know where is the real origin is, since satay is popular in Southeast Asia.Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia all have their own types of sauces. The sauces are unique and varies from one another. Turmeric powder, lemongrass and chilli powder are used in making the sauce in Malaysia. The meat is skewed andd grilled until it turns yellow or gold in colour. Satay is usually served with peanut sauce which we call kuah kacang here, Malaysia's rice cake which we call ketupat and also with some onions and some cucumber pieces on the side.

Where to get it you may ask? Well, Kajang , Selangor is the most famous place for satays and we call it Sate Kajang. What's special about this satay is that, the meat is larger than normal satays and they serve the sauce with some chilli paste. If you want to get some of it, if possible go in the weekdays. This is because if you go on weekends you might be seeing people lining up infront of some restaurants to fulfill their desires. To make it more interesting it can be served with nasi impit. There are also some other Malaysian satay in Penang called Sate Lok-Lok and Sate Celup from Malacca. Penang's satay will be served with fish eggs, quail eggs and vegetables skewed on bamboo sticks. Whereas, Satay Celup in Malacca, the sauce is the most favourite part of the meal because it gives the oomph to the dish.
