Spicy? Yes! Superb? Obviously! This is how we describe tom yam. Tom yam is curry-soup kind of dish originated from Thailand. Tom yam or Tom yum is usually cooked with shrimp. It is usually served in countries like Cambodia, Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore. now it is popular around the world. The word tom yam is derived from Thai words where tom means boiling process while yam is Thai spicy an sour salad. Generally, tom yam is defined for its hot and sour flavours with fragrant and herbs generously used in the broth.

The basic broth is made of stock and fresh ingredients like lemongrass, lime leaves,lime juice, fish sauce and crushed chilli peppers. Seasoning and preservatives are added to make it more delicious. Tom yam flavoured with the paste might have different taste from that is made with fresh ingredients. Tom yam soup usually includes meats such as chicken, beef, pork and shrimp.

Some of you might not know that there is fried rice, tom yam flavoured nowadays.

The fried rice is served with fried omlet and it is something that everybody should try.

Tom yam soup can be eaten as soup or eaten with rice. Both will be a superb way to eat the tom yam. The preapration of tom yam is as follows :

Bring water to boil over high heat in a medium-sized saucepan. Add the lemon grass, lime leaves,fish sauce and tamarind paste. ( break apart the tamarinds with your fingers as you add them). Add the shrimps, bring to boil and cook 3 minutes. Add the onion and straw mushrooms. Boil for another 7 minutes until the shrimp is cooked through. Add the chile peppers and tomatoes. Turn off the heat. Add the lime juice. Taste to adjust the seasoning, add fish sauce to taste. Serve it while hot. ( Wikipedia )
