Is it hot and sunny outside? Thirsty? Then you definitely need to have this if you want to feel what is heaven. This is a dessert usually eaten during the hot weather by Malaysians. As so many of our foods originated from Indonesia, this dessert also originated from there. It is popular in Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Burma.
Cendol is snack made from rice flour and other ingredients that are formed by filters, then mixed with palm sugar and coconut milk. The name 'cendol' is derived from 'jendol' in reference to the swollen green worm-like rice flour jelly in Javanese,Sundanese,Inonesian and Malay 'jendol' means 'bump', 'bulge' or 'swollen'. In most of the places, cendol refers to the green rice flour jelly, with coconut milk, shaved ice, areca palm sugar and sometimes diced jackfruit as cendol.
Singapore and West has given rise to different variations of cendol, such as cendol with vanilla ice cream or even better top it with durian.
Cendol has become more popular among the vendors at roadsides, hawker centres and food courts. Originally, cendol in Java was served without ice but after refrigerator technology is introduced, the cold cendol with shaved ice was available and widely popular.
